How to Delete Patient Files on a CEREC AC OMNICAM or BLUECAM
An important step often missed when dental offices upgrade to new technology or equipment is creating backups and deleting patient files off their old equipment. Atlas commonly sees this occur on the CEREC machines we refurbish.
It may seem like a daunting task, but the process is simple and straightforward and an important step you should take when you’re ready to move your used equipment out of your office. If you sell your machine to Atlas, we will always check to ensure patient files are deleted properly but have provided any easy step by step guide below that anyone can follow to complete this process on a CEREC AC Omnicam or Bluecam.
1. Create a Backup
If you need to keep your patient files, be sure they are backed up before deleted.
2. Removing Files
There are two main places to find patient files. First will be in the (D:) drive and the second will be in the (C:) drive. Depending on how many patient files you have, deleting can take a little time. You will know it is done when the folder is empty.
- The (D:) Drive
• Go to the taskbar and click on the folder icon.
• On the right-hand side, click the ‘Computer’ or ‘This PC’ icon.
• Double click on the (D:) drive. This usually is called Data or HD_Backup, but it can be called other names too. If you only have a (C:) drive, then skip to 2b.
• Inside the (D:) drive, double click on the ‘Data’ folder. Inside the folder should be the patient files according to name.
• Highlight a patient file by clicking once on it and then hold ‘Control’ and “A” on your keyboard to select all files. If you prefer, you can click and drag your mouse over the files instead.
• When all files are highlighted, right click on the files, and click delete.
- The (C:) Drive
• Go to the taskbar and click on the folder icon.
• On the right-hand side, click the ‘Computer’ or ‘This PC’ icon.
• Double click on the (C:) drive. This is usually local disc or HD_System, but just like the (D:) drive it can be called something else.
• Inside the (C:) drive double click on the ‘Program Files’ folder.
• Next, double click on the ‘Sirona Dental Systems’ folder.
• Then, double click the CADCAM folder.
• Finally, there should be a ‘Data’ folder. Double click on that ‘Data’ folder. Inside the folder should be the patient files according to name.
• Highlight a patient file by clicking once on it and then hold ‘Control’ and “A” on your keyboard to select all the files. If you prefer, you can click and drag your mouse over the files instead.
• When all files are highlighted, right click on the files, and click delete.
3. Take out the Trash
• Exit out of the (C:) drive folder to get to the main desktop.
• Right click on your recycle bin and click ‘Empty Recycle Bin’.
• Depending on how many files are in the Recycle Bin this could take some time. You will know it is done when there are no longer files in the Recycle Bin.
4. The Last Check
The last step is to verify that all files have been deleted. To do this, just go into your CEREC software. If there aren’t any patients in the software than you are done!
